Nvidia Confirms DLSS and Ray Tracing Support for Switch 2

Nvidia has revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will support Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and real-time ray tracing, thanks to a custom Nvidia chip. This technology enables improved performance and visual fidelity, including more realistic lighting and reflections. The GPU includes dedicated RT and Tensor Cores, offering ten times the graphics performance of the original Switch.

According to Nvidia, DLSS will allow the Switch 2 to upscale games from a lower resolution to 4K while maintaining high frame rates. This is a game-changer for Nintendo, which has traditionally prioritized gameplay over graphical fidelity. Titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are rumored to receive updates that leverage DLSS to improve their visual quality on the new system.

Developers are also reportedly being given tools to implement ray tracing selectively, meaning flagship titles like Metroid Prime 4 and Xenoblade Chronicles 4 could take advantage of improved reflections and shadow rendering without compromising performance.

The CPU inside the Switch 2 is also said to be a significant step up, allowing for faster loading times and better AI processing. Nvidia is working closely with Nintendo to ensure that first-party and third-party developers can fully utilize these new features without requiring massive changes to their development pipelines.
