Nintendo has officially announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5, 2025, with a retail price of $449.99. The console features enhanced processing power, a larger 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen, and supports 4K resolution in docked mode. New Joy-Con 2 controllers offer magnetic attachments and mouse-like controls for compatible games.
Additionally, the Switch 2 introduces integrated video and audio chat capabilities, aiming to enhance social gaming experiences. It will launch with a new lineup of games, including a Super Mario Odyssey sequel, Metroid Prime 4, and a Pokémon Legends entry. Nintendo has also confirmed that the Switch 2 will maintain backward compatibility with most Switch 1 titles, with select games receiving graphical and performance upgrades through a new patching system.
Another major improvement is a custom cooling system, allowing for more efficient heat dissipation, ensuring the console performs optimally even under high-demand conditions. Battery life has also been improved, offering an estimated 6 to 9 hours depending on game intensity.
